Mother's Day

Mother’s week was by far the busiest week that I had ever worked so far. I was impressed to see the business starting to prepare a week in advance. I was also impressed with the managing. Mark, the manager of the south store in Draper, would look at notes that he had made the previous year during Mothers week so that he could be prepared for this year’s Mothers week.

One day in the week we would get all of our flowers for the weekend and we would start doing some intense processing. As much as it became a big mess really fast, it was also a lot of fun.

Another day, it would be a day where we would make arrangement after arrangement just to have in the cooler. Sometimes we would only green vases just to be even more prepared. It was amazing to see how many arrangements we could cram in the cooler. Near the end, we had over 30 prearranged arrangements in the cooler ranging from all different prices. One arrangement, which Every Blooming Thing called “The Blow Out” arrangement, which is around 100 to 150 dollars, was a popular arrangement to give to the mothers. “The Blow Out” arrangement is just a mass of different kind’s of flowers in different colors in a large vase. Here are a couple “Blow Out” arrangements that I learned to design during Mother’s week.

The best part of Every Blooming Thing, is that they are closed on holidays, even if is Mother’s Day which is the biggest flower holiday there is. This week it was really good for me because I was able to work around 50 hours this week. Friday I was at work till 9 getting orders ready for the next day. Sunday was really enjoyable to finally get a break from such a successful weekend, however, my manager warned me that Monday would be the day we would get the complaints and boy was he right. Monday, we received a lot of phone calls from customers saying that their flowers died. One man came in really mad with the arrangement and demanded that he get his money back. The flowers that he held were dead but that was also because the water in the vase was too low which meant the customer just didn’t water. Every Blooming Thing still gave him back his money. When we did get complaints, the store would handle it by just making another arrangement for the customer and delivering it again. Flowers can be very unpredictable sometimes depending where they are located and in what temperatures they are in. You never can tell. This will be a Mother's Day that I will always remember.

Secretary's Week

I started my internship at Every Blooming Thing on April 20th where it so happened that this week was secretary week. Because it was secretary’s week, I actually started painting a lot of clay pots, making them green, pink, orange or white. It took a while getting used to how a flower shot ran. When I made my first "Roundy Moundy", it was nice to be able to go in the cooler and pick whatever flowers I wanted for my arrangments.

With these pots, I learned how to make “Roundy Moundies” and “Topiaries” since it was the ideal arrangement for a secretary to have on her desk.

Interning at Every Blooming Thing

This past summer I was able to do my intern in Utah at a flower shop that actually won the national award in Flower Review magazine. This flower shop is super top notch. What makes Every Blooming Thing more unique compared to other flower shops is the designers staying away from “cookie cutting” arrangements which allows the designers to use their imaginations. For example, Every Blooming Thing has a signature design known as the “Topiary”. Here below is a “Topiary” that the designers have trained me to arrange.

Another signature design that Every Blooming Thing also designs are “Roundy Moundies”. Here is a “Roundy Moundy” that I have learned to design.

Both the “Topiary” and the “Roundy Moundy” can work for almost any occasion. Every Blooming Thing is not just about sticking flowers in a vase, it’s about making every arrangement unique and different. Many times customers will try to order a specific design that Every Blooming Thing has displayed online. Again, we don’t “cookie cut” our arrangements and sometimes we have to explain to them that we are all about customizing.

Every Blooming Thing also does more than arrange flowers. They provide service for weddings, funerals, and conventions. Every Blooming Thing has done over 200 weddings a year. I was privileged to experience a weekend of working while the company did 5 weddings in one weekend during Mother’s week. Here is a picture of some center pieces that I arranged for a wedding rehearsal dinner.

This is what Every Blooming thing is all about. So far, I feel like I am getting tons of practice while seeing other designers do their magic.

Wedding Flowers Workshop

In our Wedding Flowers Workshop each girl were given different flowers. So you could either be happy with your flowers or not, either way you had to make it work. I was given yellow roses, white statice and orchids. In the end I was really happy for what I came up with. My wedding bouquet was then displayed in the Flower Event Show.

Tropicals

I was so excited in Flower Center the other day because I was able to use tropical flowers, now that's a treat. Here I have Heliconia with Calla lilies and Pin-cushion. So fun!

Same Container, Different Arrangement

Here I tried to make a completely different arrangement but use the same container.

Devotional Flowers

Here I did an arrangement a couple weeks ago using artificial flowers for Devotional.
